GM’s Report: Celebrating Grit and Building for the Future

As we look back on this last quarter, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the grit and dedication of the SQN team. Whilst my time at SQN has been relatively short, my experience in this industry has also been that the quarter over Jan-March can be a ‘tough stretch’—short months and public holidays always create a unique set of hurdles.

But beyond the calendar, this past quarter was one of the most productive that we have experienced. The market moved in ways we didn't expect, yet our teams didn't miss a beat. To the SQN staff: your work ethic has been the backbone of our success.

Whilst others might have treated the season as a time to coast, you leaned in, maintained our premier consulting standards, and kept our promises to our clients. For that, I want to say a massive thank you.

The Road Ahead: Stability in a Changing Market

We are all aware that the broader market is entering a period that may be characterised by volatility. While no one can predict exactly how long that will last, I want to be very clear: SQN is built for this. We haven't just been "waiting" for the next year to happen; we have been actively planning for it. Our strategy for the next 12 months is designed to ensure that no matter the external weather, SQN remains a stable, growing, and innovative leader in the industry.

1. High-Impact Innovation

We are doubling down on the things that matter to our clients. We are investing in R&D and digital enhancements to make our technical delivery faster and more "watertight."

  • Regional Growth: We are continuing our expansion into regional areas like Whangarei and Christchurch, ensuring our expertise is available where it’s needed most.

  • Listening Better: We’re launching new feedback systems because the best way to lead the market is to listen to the people who are in it.

2. Operational "Grit" and Efficiency

Rather than throw more resources at a busy system, we are streamlining how we work to remove friction and let our technical experts focus on what they do best.

  • Standardisation: We are leveraging new AI tools and technical frameworks to ensure our reporting stays at the premier level our clients expect, every single time.

  • Investing in People: Our new national training and cross-skilling programs mean our team is not only the best in the business but the most adaptable.

3. Leadership through Sustainable Growth

Our goals for the year are ambitious, but they are backed by a solid financial plan.

  • Capacity Building: With key senior staff and management hires currently joining the team, we are ensuring we have the "bench strength" to scale and support our clients through any market fluctuations.

  • Market Authority: We are solidifying our position as the "technical standard" by pursuing such quality driven initiatives as ISO17020, and bolster our ‘brain trust’ with the Technical Advisory Board .

The Bottom Line

We have spent the last quarter "weatherproofing" this business. We’ve tightened our processes, empowered our leaders, and backed our people. Its ging to be an interesting and exciting time for the company, our team and clients.

To our clients: thank you for your partnership. To our team: let’s keep that momentum going. We’ve built a premier firm, and the best is yet to come.
